Collective Insights — a bookclub for creatives
The idea is that we all read the same book and then get together over pizza and drinks to chat about it. Purpose The philosophy behind this is that we are all busy people and we often don’t take the time required to read books in detail. By getting together and discussing what we’ve learnt and what we’ve gotten out of the books, we may, collectively, gain better insight into the book and perhaps learn more about it. The books The informal criteria for the types of book is that they need to be fairly broadly accessible to creatives in general (i.e., not limited to specific technologies or industries). We don’t want to get into technical how-to books and are more interested in broader concept-based books that will help us to become better at what we do. Our reading list so far includes: • Design is a Job by Mike Monteiro • Just Enough Research by Erika Hall • Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter • The Elements of Content Strategy by Erin Kissane • Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss • Made to Stick by Chip Heath … what else should we consider?
