We'll be in one of two places at Portillo's: either in the front room just to the right of the main entrance, or in the back room. See you there!

Unfortunately we didn't make it to our second meeting; a gas main broke in McHenry, they closed 120 and traffic was crazy. Looking forward to next time, though!

This was my second meeting and both times, I felt awkward and not very welcome. I'm an outgoing person who prides myself on being able to strike up conversations with just about anyone. Yet I am ignored by most at this meeting and those sitting near me did not seem very interested in conversation. What is the point?

I'm sorry that your experience was a bad one. I did not meet you as I was at the other end of the table. I've attended three atheist meetups so far (different groups) and I can tell you that my experience at each meetup was totally different. At some, I had great conversation; others, almost none. It just depends on the chemistry of the people you happen to sit next to. So don't give up! Give it a few more tries. :) Best of luck!

I am also sorry you felt the way you did. I was one of the people at your table and I felt like I tried to and succeeded in conducting a conversation with you, but to be honest with your child there I was unsure what topics were open for discussion. I thought it was nice when Elizabeth came to our table and talked to all of us, and I felt that her Marilyn and I tried to engage your child with drawings. Admittedly the overflow table we were at was not the best and it would have been more fun to sit at the larger table, but that is the luck of the draw.

Well, I had a great time. I enjoyed the wonderful conversation. Thanks to Tom, Linda, Beverly and Paul. I probably can't go that far on a regular basis, but it was a pleasure meeting you all. My goal is to start a McHenry area group by Jan. I'll let you know. Here is that talk I mentioned:

And I looked up the book Paul mentioned:

I enjoyed the meetup quite a bit. The people engaged in the conversation in which I participated were terrific. Intelligent, thoughtful, respectful, funny. We had a lot of fun.

I don't think I can make it after all, unfortunately. The sump pump at home is on the fritz, so I think I need to take care of that little mess :/
