A Tartan Day Celebration at The Braveheart Highland Pub in Hellertown

Details

It's Tartan Day weekend and we'll celebrate with a visit to one of the most authentically Scottish pubs in the Lehigh Valley: the historic Braveheart Highland Pub in Hellertown.

It's been the Braveheart since 2006, but the building dates to as early as 1902, when it was the Eagle Hotel and later the Hellertown Hotel. Today, it's one of the Lehigh Valley's only Scottish pubs, featuring Scottish beers on tap and Scottish favorites like fish and chips, meat pies, bridies, mince and tatties, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and more.

Tartan Day is officially April 6 but we'll celebrate on this day, the same day as the annual Tartan Day parade in New York. Tartan Day commemorates the day that the Declaration of Arbroath (or the Scottish Declaration of Independence) was signed in 1320. The American Declaration of Independence was actually modeled on the Declaration of Arbroath and many of the Founding Fathers were of Scottish descent, including almost half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and nine of the 13 governors of the newly established United States.

Tartan Day is a celebration of Scottish culture and heritage and a day to recognize Scottish and Scottish-American contributions to the US.

So join us for some Scottish food and drink and some local history, including ghost stories. We'll have the entire porch area reserved for this meetup, starting at 1 p.m.

See you there!
