October?s Field Trip



One Day Field Trip ? Engaged Buddhism in the Age of Obama. The Buddhist symposium will look in our on-going wars, ecological and economic imbalance such as global climate change, poverty and political oppression. This event will explore our society from a Buddhist perspective, exploring this rich religious philosophy for lessons applicable to our current dilemmas. Of particular interest will be lessons of gratitude, humility and interdependence emphasized within the Shin Buddhist tradition.


Keynote speakers:



Dr. Mark Unno, Associate Professor of East Asian Religions, University of Oregon.

Dr. Kodo Umezu, Director of the Center for Buddhist Education, Jodo Shinshu Center, Berkeley, Ca.

Location:

New York Buddhist Church. 332 Riverside Drive, New York City.

Time & Cost:

12 noon - 5 p.m. Free of charge

Lunch: complimentary Japanese food

We will be leaving Middletown area at 9:30 a.m. We will be returning around 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in going with us, contact us reply to this e-mail. Let us know your full name and town. We will be meeting up in a central commuter lot depending on the location of who is going.

If you are on the way to NYC we can pick you up off the way on Merritt Parkway at a commuter lot. This activity is free of charge but we will share in the fuel.
