Buddhism Symposium Field Trip

New York City, Saturday, October 30



Carpooling: A few of us will be carpooling from the Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies in Middletown. Visit www.bffct.net for directions. We will be leaving at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Let us know if you are coming by reply to this email.

Train: Some of us will be going by Metro North from New Haven and Stamford and we will all meet up at the NY Buddhist Church.

One Day Field Trip ? Engaged Buddhism in the Age of Obama. The Buddhist symposium will look in our on-going wars, ecological and economic imbalance such as global climate change, poverty and political oppression. This event will explore our society from a Buddhist perspective, exploring this rich religious philosophy for lessons applicable to our current dilemmas. Of particular interest will be lessons of gratitude, humility and interdependence emphasized within the Shin Buddhist tradition.

Keynote speakers:

Dr. Mark Unno, Associate Professor of East Asian Religions, University of Oregon.

Dr. Kodo Umezu, Director of the Center for Buddhist Education, Jodo Shinshu Center, Berkeley, Ca.

Location:

New York Buddhist Church. 332 Riverside Drive, New York City.

Time & Cost:

12 noon - 5 p.m. Free of charge.

We will be leaving Middletown area at 9:30 a.. Let us know you name and location. If you are on the way to NYC we can pick you up off the way on Merritt Parkway at a commuter lot. This activity is free of charge but we will share in the fuel.
