Mina Song and Liam O’Connor are the husband-and-wife duo behind Picnic Studio — a curious, character-obsessed animation company who have created work with the likes of LEGO, Beats, Channel 4, and Daft Punk.

Over the past decade they’ve built a fully remote studio while raising a family, blending East/West 2D animation styles with character-driven storytelling and navigating the highs and lows of creative life together.

In this talk, they’ll share candid insights on:

  • Turning freelancing into a sustainable studio
  • How partnership and parenthood shape creativity
  • Balancing artistry, commerce and client demands
  • Staying resilient through burnout, deadlines and remote work
  • Where animation is heading next — from AI disruption to long-form storytelling

Part creative journey, part survival guide, this is a rare inside look at how two people juggle marriage, family and a thriving animation studio — and what they’ve learned along the way.
