Motorists ticketed by red-light cameras in Cherry Hill and Stratford could receive refunds under the proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit.

Redflex Traffic Systems, which operates camera systems in the two towns, has tentatively agreed to pay $2.1 million into a settlement fund, the Phoenix-based firm said Wednesday. The fund would pay $8.50 per violation, or 10 percent of the original ticket’s cost, to drivers caught running red lights in the Camden County towns prior to August 2012.

Refunds also would go to motorists ticketed in Edison, Englewood Cliffs and Newark. About 260,000 violations were issued in all five towns during that period, Redflex says.

Another red-light camera operator, American Traffic Solutions Inc., also is awaiting judicial approval of the $4.2 million settlement of a similar suit. That deal would pay $8.50 per violation to drivers ticketed before August 2012 in Deptford, Glassboro, Gloucester Township and Monroe. The agreement would cover some 500,000 violations.
