  • Hi guys and galswell i will be up todoanother backcountry as i will be on vacation then! I did this with alars and kimberly but we did not go all the way to diamond peak it was awsome! great area and a couple of great base camp sites. revue pics from last year labbled divide lake backcountryand you will see some pics. we will be out for 2 nights and come back on sunday. haveing a great late lunch at the famous brewery in town! for those who want to met there here are the directions to the trail head. turn off hwy 58 at the sign for hills creek resevoir ( 1.3 mileseast of oakridge)after half a mile on rd 21, continue straight at an intersection onto rd 23,follow this route for 15.6 milesof pavementand another 3.9 miles of gravel to a pass beside hemlock butte. turn left ar a hiker symbol signimmediately beyond the pass, drive 200 yards on a sur road, and park at the vivian lake trailhead. this will lead us to two great trails ,dieamond peak trail loop or divide lake, we can choose the one at the time giving us 2 great backcountry trail hikes and i think that part of the jszz of backcountry is to explore our options!! plz rsvp yes by the deadline as i will not come down and go alone as i will be comming down from seattle to be with you!!

part of my backcountry adventures is just that an adventure, divide lake is beautifull and so is diamond peak! be in decent shape for this!there is some elevation and it will be one group.we will have a basecamp where ever we decide to camp, and hike with a day pack or just water bottle and go untill we decide to come back.i myself would like to summit diamond peak if possible.i have a forest pass, and a backcountry permit will not be needed,i can take 2 people from the meetupspot. rsvp 5/28

I'm interested, but I'm new to this area and would like to know what the two trail options involve - how high they go (how good are the views going to be) and roughly how many hours of walking (or how many miles), what permits we need, etc. Also, I'd like the group to have some sort of preferred option beforehand, obviously depending on conditions on the day (or maybe we can split up if there are enough of us), as in my experience having some sort of plan leads to better trips.
