Silver Falls State Park

Silver Falls is one of the prettiest spots in Oregon! We'll hike the Trail of Ten Falls one-way, starting at the North Falls, leaving a shuttle car at South Falls. The hike is about 5 miles, and really does pass 10 different waterfalls. The trail goes behind two of the falls. A highlight for me is the "tree casts" in the ceiling of the cave behind the falls where the lava hardened around a tree millions of years ago. Plus, the waterfalls themselves are pretty spectacular at this time of year too.

This is a fairly easy hike, suitable for children, but dogs aren't allowed. It costs $5 per car to enter the park. The park is located 26 miles east of Salem, or about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Eugene.

Bring something for lunch, and some water. I'll bring my Steri-Pen to purify the creek water if we need it (tastes great).

I'm planning a leisurely hike, stopping at all the falls and taking lots of pictures. There's just too much to see to rush through it.

The park has a nice campground with RV and tent sites if you want to make a weekend of it. For more information on the park, click HERE

Probably the best state park in the country! Very safe if you stay on the trail. We proved it's safe for children and 76 year olds.

Great trip, thanks Bill, gorgeous scenery and (yet again) excellent company. It's a shame there weren't more people taking advantage of this trip - it would be a very suitable for children. Anita and Ina really enjoyed it too.
