Please look for areas highlighted in bold if you are a regular attendee. These note changes in location each week. The rest of the information not highlighted is information that is revolving and stays the same for each hike.
I have been out of commission for a while with some major life changes (all good ones) but am trying to get back on track with the Monday night hikes. Please be aware that at times I may not be able to attend as stuff does come up sometimes, but I will start trying to post that information on the site before the departure time so people know whether to watch for me or not. I can't remove myself as an attendee however in circumstances when I can't attend because then the event would not have a host and I don't know what meetup does in that circumstance. I could assign someone else as event host however so that people know who to look for. In the event that I cannot attend one night, I will post it on the event page. Please let me know if you are interested in hosting in my place.
This will be a regularly scheduled hike with a changing location each week. Every Monday evening. The goal of this isn't so much for the sunset, like the Wednesday night Spencer's Butte hikes are, but rather just for a regular scheduled hike for those of us that can't make Wednesdays. We will be alternating locations each week. Perhaps Spencer's one week, Pisgah the next, sections of the Ridgeline trail, perhaps some of the wetlands paths. Anything that is close to town that we can easily get to after a long workday. Great stress relief for the beginning of a busy work week. I will try to get them posted at least a week ahead of time but sometimes changes in location may be posted last minute so please keep an eye on the site for changes.
This week we will be hiking... Shotgun Creek Park. There are various trails we can do of various lengths from 0.10 mile to 2.36 miles. We will likely do the longer one but we can decide as a group that evening. The terrain is fairly hilly but we'll be going at an easy pace so it should be manageable for people of most abilities. I will bring trail maps for everyone. This will be the first time I have hiked up there so I am looking forward to it. Please be prepared for wet and muddy weather with appropriate footwear and a good rain jacket.
To get to the park take 105 East toward Springfield and take the 42nd St. exit. Go left on 42nd St. It ends at Marcola Rd. Go right. Follow Marcola Rd. for several miles until it intersects with Shotgun Creek Road. Go left. The park is on your right after about 1.5 miles.
I normally carry the 10 essentials on every hike I do, whether its a 1 hour hike or a multi day trip. I'm not going to expect that everyone do so, but I am expecting that you will come prepared. Please be sure you wear appropriate footwear, bring water and if the weather looks iffy, a good jacket. For these hikes, since they are evening hikes, please also be prepared with a headlamp or flashlight in case we're still out when vision gets limited. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Hope to see you on the trails!
