New Meetup: House Rock

From: Chad
Sent on: Sunday, November 7, 2010 7:14 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Eugene Hiking & Camping Meetup Group!

What: House Rock

When: Sunday, November 14,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Albertsons @ Hilyard & E 30th
3075 Hilyard St
Eugene, OR 97405

The weather for next weekend it tentatively looking quite good, let's hope it will stick and we can enjoy some fine hiking!

House Rock lays along an old mountain road that was at one time the Santiam Wagon Road, the main pass through the cascades in the early 1900's. We'll be following it for 2.4 miles (4.8 miles round trip) to House Rock, a nice rock formation with caves and a waterfall. The hike is only a 300 foot elevation gain so despite the longish-ish length it should be a pretty easy hike.

After our hike those interest can stop for dinner and/or drinks at The Point Restaurant in Sweet Home featuring down home cooking and a view of Foster Lake.

The drive will be roughly 1.5 hours each way. so I'd expect to be back in Eugene around 7:30 if you stay for dinner, or around 6:30 if you don't. The weather forecast currently says mid 50's and partly cloudy, but obviously that can change. Layers and waterproof gear is highly recommended. I'd also suggest bringing a lunch or eating before we head out, since we won't be near too many places to grab a bite before.

Also note if you're on the north side of town and would prefer to meet us somewhere north (we'll be taking I5 up towards Albany) please note it in your comment. You'll have to let me know where to meet though since last time I was up by gateway it didn't seem possible to exit to gateway from I5 North...
