About an hour away from Eugene (I-5 south to Cottage grove exit, follow signs toward Dorena Lake, but keep on going out Row River Road till you find a good spot) there is lots of free camping along Brice Creek (much of it right on the creek) and the Brice Creek Trail to cruise on. The trailhead is next to an established camping area with plenty of parking. The Mckenzie River trail is another option, but it has so many roots and rocks it might be too rough.
