UBERFest: North Wash
Who wants to go to Hanksville to do some awesome Utah canyons!?
The area around Hanksville is riddled with canyoneering opportunities: The Irish skinnies (Lucky Charms, Blarney's, Shillelagh, Leprechauns, Shenanigans), the Hogs (Boss Hog, Hogwarts, Merry Piglet, Miss Piggy, Razorback), the Poison Springs (Arscenic, Constrychnine, Monoxide, Slideanide), Maidenwater, Fooling Around, the Black Hole of White Canyon (if you like long, dark, deep, cold swims ... AND I DO!), Morocco, and Woody (a canyon with multiple pothole escapes!)
Professional and approved technical canyoneering training is required to participate on this event (in addition to those who are already approved to attend our events). If you are not sure how this requirement affects you, please drop me a note before you sign-up! There are several Uber Adventures 3-day Technical Canyoneering Courses/Advanced Courses/Leader Courses/Rescue Courses between now and October. Get the training if you'd like to join! Train Hard - Plan Well - Be Safe
Remember, this is not a guided event, but rather an informal gathering of trained or experienced canyoneers who are able and willing to share and work together descending local canyons. Please be prepared to do canyons as a team and not expect others to babysit you through! That said, the more experienced should allow some of the less experienced to join their descents!
LOCATION: Hanksville, UT is an 11 hour drive from Los Angeles (plus a 1-hour time change). All of the canyons I've done in the area are loops or lollipops ... I don't recall needing a car shuttle for any of them. So Carpool!
CAMPING: We'll camp at Sandthrax .. roughly 28 miles south of Hanksville on highway 95 (mile marker 28.5, left turn into camp, there is a wooden sign/kiosk back off the road. In camp, we'll be following the Leave No Trace principles .. NO POOPING AT THE CAMPSITE .. burying is not acceptable at this site! Everyone will use the Hog Springs picnic area pit toilets down the road ... BRING your own Toilet Paper! This is primitive camping .. bring everything you will need, including tent, sleeping bag/pad, table, stove, chair, cooler, etc! It's also a 30 minute drive to cel service, gas, food and pay showers.
FEE: This event is sponsored by Uber Adventures and there is NO FEE!
Weather: Average Highs in the 70's and Lows in the 30's
