Enjoy free screening of powerful film, winner of 12 international awards

This fascinating film, The Power of Community, documents how, following the demise of Cuba’s sole supplier of oil, communities in Cuba pulled together, to find creative solutions to the problems of transportation, energy development, and adequate food supply. A highly mechanized industrial agricultural system, heavily dependent on oil based fertilizers and pesticides, was quickly transformed to one using organic gardening, as city-dwellers planted organic urban gardens on every available plot.
For us in Albany with everyday news of the danger of explosions of oil-filled trains, fracking, and global warming, the presentation of this film is very timely, as it reminds us that we have alternatives to continued dependence on fossil fuels. The film is free and open to the public, as are the snacks provided, and the convenient parking on the library’s Elk Street entrance.

    Dear Capital District Singles:
Hope you can join us for this great environmental film on Cuba, winner of 12 International Awards. With global warming, fracking, oil-filled trains through our neighborhoods, it is a very timely film. Free admission.
Our two most recent films had over 70 persons in attendance, so we expect a good turnout. The projector, large screen & sound system are excellent.
After the film we look forward to a good discussion, sweetened by free brownies & cider.

I've always been fascinated by Cuba & wish our government would allow us to travel freely to Cuba. I'll bet there is much we could learn from them.
