FYI: Albany Scrabble Club (not a meet-up)
The Albany Scrabble Club is not a Meet-Up group but they provide a wonderful forum for competitive Scrabble play. We've posted this additional Scrabble night for our members who want both the very social Scrabble events that our Meet-up group provides, and also want some more challenging, competitive, timed, structured play. You may RSVP or just show up.
The club meets every Thursday evening from 6:15-10:15 p.m. (though players can come later and leave earlier). For experienced serious players and less serious players alike, the club aims to provide an organized forum where players of all skill levels compete to win in a spirit of congeniality. The club is especially suited for those who enjoy challenging games and aspire to improve their playing skills. All games are one-on-one, timed games that follow the official National Scrabble Association rules and is similar to chess tournaments, (except for the speed ). Usuallly 10-14 club members show up weekly. Among them may be 3 or 4 members of our own Meet-Up Scrabble Group.
The club uses the lower level at the Third Reformed Church at 20 Ten Eyck Ave., Albany. (The parking lot is on the very short Kate St. in the back of the church) that connects Ten Eyck Ave. to Whitehall Rd. Enter through the back door. Free the first visit, the cost thereafter is $1/game (maximum of four games per night) to cover rent, light refreshments, and playing materials. Walk-ins welcome!
