I kind of like that -- it was definitely a defiantly hilly ride ;). Sorry...couldn't resist (what I'm guessing was a typo)

For those that have done this rude before, what do you do with your bike/cleats while on the ferry?

    February 23, 2013

    • Mark L.

i have plastic covers for my cleats that I can slip when I need to walk inside. let it rain. i finally received the shiny bits to mount fenders on my X. extended apologizes to those i have sprayed in the past. i have reformed my ways.

      February 23, 2013

    • Carl W.

I'm taking some light flip flops that you can store in your jersey/jacket pockets...as I was unable to get a pair of cleat covers in time..

to blink or not. I just replaced the very tired battery on my rear blinker and now that sucker is brite. I rode up on another rider during Friday's commute and when he reached back and turned of his blinker I started thinking.

    See you there !

My favorite event of the year! Will be on the 8:45

It can't be harder than some of the hills we've already been up .... can it?

    1 · February 18, 2013

    • Scott B.

Well...it says 2675 ft for Chilly Hilly at https://shop.cascade.o... and I did over 4100ft yesterday...I don't know about the steepness of the hills on CH though.

If a rider has ridden consistently on the CHEW rides, then Chilly Hilly is a done deal. Think it, believe it, ride it.

    I have that awful flu!

I have room for two other riders (with bikes) in (and on) my car. I will be leaving from my home in north Bellevue (near Bridle Trails) at about 7:45. I have a parking place in downtown Seattle at the Wells Fargo Center. If you're interested, call me at[masked]

What time do we need arrive at the dock to get on the 7:55 sailing?

    February 21, 2013

    • Machiko T.

This is my first Chilly Hilly, but if it's like Kitsap Color Classic and you have to register the day of or pick up your packet, you should be there an hour before? That's my guess.

      February 22, 2013

  • Al M.

Pete and I will be on the 0845 ferry

I am still debating. But you will make fun of me if I don't do CH yet wear the jersey (I love the graphic). I have til tomorrow to decide. My thighs are still sore from this Sunday!

Don't feel bad, and I also think it's the neatest design. I bought the t-shirt, had the money for the hoodie, was so excited to do this with my brand new recumbent trike, and didn't care how long it took me to finish. Then I realized the Chilly Hilly (CH) is the same day of the afternoon performance of the Tacoma Symphony which I bought tickets to last August for my 92 year old Mom and another friend of mine. How could I disappoint two others since I'm the driver when all it took from me was a more careful glance at the calendar. Even though the bike ride is early I knew I couldn't finish in time (easy pace), get home, and shower in time to leave for the concert at 12:30. I thought the CH was on Saturday, February 23, Stupid, stupid me. I'm so disappointed, but am doing another ride in Carnation, WA on February 23. Good luck to everyone and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

Just registered! I will be on the first boat there. I am sure many of you will pass me. Don't forget to say hi when you do!

So glad you decided to go! My legs are still sore, too....

The last hill (as I bailed shortly after)... I use the road often, but I will cringe driving thru from now on.

The weather forecast listing today for Sunday (which is about as reliable as picking the 2014 Super Bowl winner at this time) - "Increasing rain will move in later in the day on Sunday. Highs in the mid 40s all the way through the weekend." - perfect for Chilly Hilly although a little snow always makes for a better story! Woot!!

In a group of cyclists this large, a whole ferry boat full it would be hard to find specific riders. I don't plan to look for or meet anyone but just go and enjoy the ride!

    February 19, 2013

  • Martha (Marty) M.

I was paid up and ready to tackle this with no prior biking experience, but I have to take my 92 year old Mom to a performance of the Tacoma Symphony instead.

this is scheduled for 8am, so we're all piling on the 8:45 ferry? or are you thinking of trying for the 7:55 one?
