Midweek Eastside Evening Training Series – Steady/Moderate/Brisk 21.9 mi (1159’)

Come join us for the MEETS midweek training series – Marymoor edition. Ride leaders for this week are:

Brisk: Kimberly Smith and Al Miller
Moderate: Sandi Navarro and Debbie Muir
Steady: Ann Silvernale and Joni Griffis

PLEASE RSVP ahead of time if you plan to ride with us so we can recruit additional ride leaders as necessary. RSVP not required, but would be MUCH appreciated.

Draft route for this week is: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2371311

Midweek Eastside Evening Training Series – The “MEETS” rides will be held Wednesday evenings at 6 pm each week. These will be training routes that incorporate local hills, are between 20-25 miles, and will progress from ~ 1000 to 1700 feet of elevation. There will be three paces offered for riders – Steady (12-14 mph on flats); Moderate (14-16 mph on flats); and Brisk (16-18 mph on flats); which will all use a common course for that week. Each ride pace for the week will also be posted at Cascade Bicycle Club Daily Rides Calendar

Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group, read a cue sheet, change a flat (and have the requisite equipment), and have a positive attitude! Faster riders and better climbers are welcome to join but for them the ride becomes self-paced and self-guided. Riders can ride on their own, in small groups, or with the appropriate pace ride leader. A limited number of cue sheets will be available at ride start so please print your own just in case. The final route and cue sheets will be available the weekend prior to each ride.

Rest stops: There will be no planned rest stops as these are short rides; however there is a restroom at the park.

Great ride last night. Great hill climbs and that climb at the end was worth waiting for.
Thanks for Kim for leading the group and Al for hanging out at the back and leading some small sections..
Enjoyed the route and this will be one I will look forward to riding again in the future.

For the Brisk paced riders, there was a question on the stats about Sahalee climb from 50th to 37th (which is what we did) - Strava reports that segment as follows:
    Distance 0.8mi
    Avg Grade 8.3%
    Elev Gain 352ft
The hill pitches up and down a little so we undoubtedly went over the 8.3% number. A great training hill (among so many great opportunities on the east side!) Based on your positive feedback, we'll endeavor to find another great hill for next week's "bonus" miles!!

On the Meetup.com web site the route shown is:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2371311
On the Cascade Daily Ride Calendar the route shown is:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2331368

Two different routes (map and cue sheets).
    Which one are we doing?

    April 24, 2013

    • Al M.

Phil - it's the Novelty Hill / Trilogy route as on Meetup. It's only the Steady posting that has the issue - the Brisk and Moderate paces are okay. We start at the same place which is good!

Phil, always use the meetup site as the final route. We post a draft route and then update it when we pre-ride over the weekend.

Just a reminder to those who didn't get the earlier email via Meetup from me that we are encouraging folks who can get there a few minutes earlier to park another free Marymoor Parking Lot to reduce congestion in the lot by the ball fields. This lot is about 3-4 blocks away (see the additional bike ride as part of your warmup!) and is located at http://goo.gl/YzUJY ; it is next to the shopping center parking lot for Whole Foods, Peete's, etc - please do not park in the shopping center lot as it is for those businesses. This is a bit of an experiment so please share your experiences with us.

Hey everyone, we are adding a leisure pace to this series if anyone knows of any riders - pass it on. We'll start this week.
