Jason Isla has been a musician all of his life. His musical ear was developed (after the pots & pan years) by studying piano, violin and the upright bass. He began drumming while on a year long volunteer experience in Zimbabwe (Southern Africa) in 1997. After 10 years of playing the drum and a year of working with Jana Broder of Drum Magic, Jason began his own drum circle facilitation company, Giving World Percussion in 2007. Now 16 years after playing his first djembe, Jason has performed in various formats for small groups and crowds as large as 16,000 people. He has played and studied with traditional teachers, rock bands, reggae artists, blues bands, piano-percussion duos, and much more. In 2012 Jason began singing in addition to playing percussion in his steady rock bands. Though he had sung traditional songs for years during facilitated drum circles, playing and singing in rock bands opened up new paths to personal growth and discovery. This explains the new 30 minute meditation and vocal practice that now will begin the Monday night classes.
