Debate: Is the US Government Founded on the Christian Religion? (Grand Rapids)

  • Nov 12, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a Debate on the Resolution: “That the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.

This statement, taken directly from the text of the Treaty of Tripoli, signed by President John Adams and ratified unanimously by the U.S. Senate, is the basis for a debate over the extent to which the Founding Fathers intended to make Christianity or the Bible the basis of the American government and American law.

Ed Brayton, member of the advisory boards of CFI Michigan and Michigan Citizens for Science and a popular writer, will take the affirmative and defend the resolution; Dr. Tim Schmig, Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Christian Schools, will take the negative.
