Special event: "The Christ Myth" by Robert M. Price (after Member Reception)

The event is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Join us for a special presentation by visiting speaker Robert Price for a skeptical view on the historicity of Jesus while enjoying the Lucky Lab's food and brews. Minors are permitted until 9.00pm.

If you are a current member of the Center for Inquiry, please join us for the Member Reception with Prof. Price from[masked] pm. To renew your membership or join for the first time, go to our Membership Page.

Topic: Was Jesus a historical figure who once walked the earth? Or does a myth lie at the root of the gospel portrait? How does a historian decide? Does the existence of numerous mythic parallels "prove" Jesus is a myth? Do ancient historians document Jesus' existence? Why do most scholars dismiss the Christ Myth Theory as a crackpot notion akin to Holocaust denial? Does the theory have anything to do with atheism?

Schedule:

6:00-7:00 pm - Member Reception

7:00 pm - Doors open to the public

7:30 pm - Presentation and Q&A

About the speaker: Robert M. Price is professor of biblical criticism at the Center for Inquiry Institute. He teaches philosophy and religion at the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary and is the author of a number of books on theology and the historicity of Jesus, including Deconstructing Jesus (2000), The Reason Driven Life (2006), Jesus is Dead (2007), Inerrant the Wind: The Evangelical Crisis in Biblical Authority (2009), The Case Against the Case for Christ (2010), and The Amazing Colossal Apostle: The Search for the Historical Paul (2012). Robert Price was very knowledgeable about his subject and a good speaker. For more information on this subject, see "Why the Gospels Are Myth" a lecture by Richard Carrier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILldt2XHZw0 and "Why I Think Jesus Didn't Exist: A Historian Explains the Evidence That Changed His Mind by Richard Carrier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwUZOZN-9dc and "The Case Against The Case For Christ" by Robert Price https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KQaBxRt_bM

He mentioned it but I can't stress how good the books "Gospel Fictions" and "Who Wrote the Gospels" by Randel Helms are. Not Christ Myth books but definitely material that can push you in that direction.

I'm a member, but my ride isn't, so I expect I'll just go to the lecture.

I've sent a dues payment to the CFI national office, so am I member? Will someone be checking that at the door?

Sounds like you recently rejoined? We will have a current membership list the day of the event. People can show their membership card at the door, or, for those who have re-joined too recently to have received one, or those who, like me, have too many cards to keep track of, we'll have a current membership list at the door, so we can check. Thanks for your support, Gayle. It's people like you who make it all possible
      :-)

Is there a fee, or admission for that event on April 10?

    March 28, 2014

    • SylviaB

The event is free. The special reception before the event is limited to members, since they are paying for the event.

I can't wait to meet and listen to Dr. Price in person after years of listening to him by podcast and reading several of his books. Should be great!
