Discussion: Personhood

Come join us for an engaging topic-centered discussion. Java Vivace will serve you your choice of poison (coffee, tea, beer, wine etc.) and delicious food (unique crepes), while your fellow CFIers will serve up the conversation.

The topic for November is:

What makes a person a person? Or not a person? Do you consider an animal to be a person? Could you? What about a computer program? If not now, maybe someday?

All are welcome. Cost for Non-CFI members: $2. Free for members.

If you would like to suggest future topics or make any other suggestions, please send them to the organizers.

Note: If you RSVP with yes and decide not to attend, please update your RSVP, other people might be waiting.

Discussion Guidelines:

  • Please be respectful.
  • One conversation at a time.
  • Disagreement is to be expected in an interesting conversation. But if you disagree with a point, please offer a counter argument, or example. Simply saying "you're wrong" doesn't help further debate.
  • Please allow others to speak, don't dominate the conversation.
  • While it's the moderator's job to steer the conversation, keep it on topic, and give everyone a chance to have their say, it's also a cooperative effort.

Thanks and happy discussing,

My impression was that every person at the table participated in the discussion. I find this to be extremely atypical of discussion groups. Please see my comments in the discussion section:[masked]

Can't come, but Glenn you always pick great topics. I was thinking the topic was more about changing peoples views on issues, but looking at the questions below the topic I think you're intending to take it in another direction.

Sorry about that, I failed to change the title from the meeting I'd copied it from.
