Meet a Scientist at Gilgamesh Brewery!

We've changed our Third-Thursday meet-up activity. This November the Giglamesh Brewery in Salem started holding a "science night" also on the third Thursday of the month. We decided to continue to "meet a scientist" - only at the pub. This change is on a trial basis.

The talk starts at 7:00 PM. At least some of us hope to meet at 6 PM to get a table and have dinner before the talk. Last month the pub was full and seating was difficult.

This week's topic at Gilgamesh Brewing is "Conserving Orchids" by Kathryn Theiss, a postdoctoral scholar at Willamette University.

ABOUT THE TALK: Above all other plants, orchids have fascinated people worldwide for centuries. They can flavor our food, adorn our wrists at prom, and bring color to our homes. However, these same plants face multiple threats to survival in their native habitats. Dr. Theiss will share her experiences with orchids and conservation in Madagascar and give tips on how you can continue to love orchids guilt-free.

Is everyone good with the new location? Who might come early to get dinner first?

Oops, (don't hit Enter before finishing thought...:-)). Hi Jeanine, my other evening commitment disappeared, so I will try to arrive around 6 pm and join whoever is there for dinner.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to Meet a Scientist on the 19th. I will be at my wife's company party. See everyone in the New Year.
