Cerebral Cinema - Michael Shannon in a New Movie!

Die hard cinephiles, academic film enthusiasts, and casual movie goers looking to expand their movie going experience welcome. Cerebral Cinema is a group geared towards getting together to watch a variety of a eclectic cinema ranging from highbrow indie fare to genre blockbusters. Following each theatrical outing, our group will congregate to discuss the film over food or drinks in a casual laid-back environment. Discussion topics will center around the film's plot and themes, the past filmography of the cast and crew, and the film at hand's cultural relevance. Let's get acquainted and talk cinema.

In this latest film featuring actor Michael Shannon of Revolutionary Road, Bug and Boardwalk Empire fame, Shannon plays an alien general named Zod. After aspiring to become the totalitarian dictator of his home-world Krypton, and Krypton's subsequent destruction, Zod comes to earth to rule ("finally to rule") forcing all earthlings to "kneel before Zod!" When he comes to realize that Earth is the adopted home of the son of his jailer, also from Krypton, stakes are ratcheted and an interstellar grudge match ensues (also, I think the title of this film is Man of Steel and I believe it features some character named Superman but that's neither here nor there). We will meet at the theater at 7:45 prior to the 8:10 2D screening (although if anyone would prefer to see the film in 3D they can catch the 7:30 show and simply meet the rest of us afterward for drinks). Drinks and discussion will follow after the film at the Starbucks on Astor Place and/or Central Bar. Be there or be quadrilateral.

New Michael Shannon film (aka Man of Steel, or something to that effect) is rated PG-13, is directed by Zack Snyder and stars MICHAEL SHANNON among others.

**Note: The time listed is merely an approximation. As the given venue's showtimes are subject to change, showtimes for Cerebral Cinema meetings are subject to change as well. Check in with the event page, as well as your email, for updates.**

Different people appear to be attending different screenings due to the 8:10 show selling out early. Just shoot me a text and let me know which show you're catching so we can all keep each other posted and link up afterward (my digitz[masked]). Take care, catch up with you all later.

I'm going to have to bail at the last minute. Have not been feeling well this week, and still don't. Have a good time!

What's that you say? A big budget summer blockbuster featuring Superman is far too populist for your more eclectic cinematic tastes? Well you ma'am or sir are an individual after my own heart. I invite you to join me and my cohorts on Saturday out in front of The Landmark/Sunshine Theater for a 5 o'clock screening of The East starring Brit Marling and Ellen Page. Hope to see you there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHpT9B7e7-Q
