Don't be a cotton headed ninny muggins. Go see elf with me. I mean Buddy the elf said to Jovie "I think you're really beautiful and I feel really warm when I'm around you and my tongue swells up". Between that and his singing in the woman's bathroom while she showers would in todays time have landed him squarely in HR in the department store he's working in.

I will never be the ladies man Buddy the Elf is in the movie.

At the beginning go Elf Santa gives Buddy some tips for navigating New York City.

Gum: Santa warns Buddy, "First off, you see gum on the street, leave it there. It isn't free candy".

Okay that's solid advice. You don't know where it's been. You might not want to know. You would be surprised.

Pizza: He explains there are countless "Ray's Pizzas" in New York, but the real one is on 11th street.

Okay so that is definitely debatable. The best pizza is in New York City, but it is a matter of preference. According to Wikipedia in 2011 there were 49 variants of Ray's including Not Ray's Pizza. He's a Mensch. See we have this whole other vocabulary.

"Peep Show": Santa advises him that a sign that says "Peep Show" does not mean he can see presents before Christmas.

That all depends on what Jovie, his love interest is giving him for Christmas.

Santa leaves a lot of other useful advice out here. I mean this can be a rough place.

Chinese Restaurants: There are three Chinese restaurants on every block. Chinese Restaurants are to NYC what Starbucks is to the rest of the world. Everywhere.

Smiles: Just don't. Try to look mildly aggravated and you will fit in fine. Think resting jerk face.

One Dollar: Sure there are places with a dollar slice of Pizza, but almost free also usually means almost edible.

Bodega: looking for breakfast ask for the nearest one of these. It's a convenience store, but don't call it that. It's a Bodega. I have no clue why. You'll sound street though. Remember "bacon, egg and cheese" is pronounced as one word. Like Long Island. LONGUYLAND. Usually some pretty decent food in a Bodega.

Slice & Pie: A Slice is all you need to say for a single piece of Pizza. A Pie is the whole pizza.

Hella-This is a modifier in the place of very or really. We also have some other words and terms. Schmear, Schvitz, dirty water dog, and one special word we interlace throughout all our conversations. It is actually a noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. Grandma uses it. You know the one. Familiarize yourself with the terms and you won't get confused.

So Elf is a movie I love. I am bringing my daughter to this too. She likes it. It will get you in the holiday mood. If it can't I can't help you.

This is a three part evening because why not?

Lets meet at the Walker Theater for a Bobby Stone Film series screening of Elf with Will Ferrell.
