The Han Dynasty - EASIA 04

Our host, Richard, is starting an exciting new series on the historical developments of East Asia over the past two millenia. This session will follow the succession to the person of Qin Shi Huangdi, the first Chinese Emperor. This will result in the creation of China's first long-term and stable dynasty, the Han, and their incorporation of Confucian values into administration. This resulted in expansive economic growth, a flowering of art and scholarship, and numerous scientific advances. We will also discuss the wars with the Xiongnu (early Mongols), the transformative administration of Emperor Wu of Han, and the rebellion of the Xin Dynasty, and eventual weakening of the Han Dynasty after nearly 400 years of rule.

This presentation is part of a recurring East Asian History series. The series is interactive, where you can ask questions throughout the lecture and discourse. This will make attending much more fun than just watching the recordings later.

There will be a hard stop on new materials after two hours and an additional 30 minutes for discussions. Accordingly, we will move only as quickly as the material goes; I am more interested in communicating knowledge than adhering to a strict schedule.
