Gary’s Hebrew Birthday Sunrise Ride!!!

This Sunday 21 July 2013 is 14 Av 5773 in the Jewish Calendar, and it is my birthday. Let’s meet at the Dempster and McCormick South parking lot at 5:45AM and ride to Navy Pier. This ride is for experienced riders, unlike my other rides where everyone is welcome. We will leave at 6:00AM. The expected pace is 16-18mpg along the streets and the Lakefront path.

We will go south on the Channel trail to Touhy, east on Touhy to Sheridan. Then south on Sheridan to Ardmore and east on Ardmore to the Lakefront path. Lakefront path south to Navy Pier, and return. It will be about 30 miles round trip, perhaps a bit more.

At the end of this ride, we can go north on the Channel Trail to Church, go west on Church to Gross Point, right on Gross Point and breakfast at Emma’s Bagel Café. That’s another 5 mile round trip.

What You Should Bring:

Bike (in good working order), Helmet, Extra Inner Tube, Portable Air Pump (or CO2 cartridges), Tire Levers, Sunscreen, Lock (if stopping for breakfast), Money (if stopping for breakfast), Cell phone (recommended), Photo ID (recommended), Insurance Card (recommended), Munchies / Power Bars / Trail Mix (recommended for any long ride without a break for food.)

Waiver / Helmet Rule:

Each rider will have to sign a waiver for each ride (I will supply the waivers). All riders must wear a helmet for the duration of the ride.

Please, last, and most important, bring no presents except your own presence.

Sorry, Gary, I'm very tired tonight. I think I'll sleep in tomorrow. Have a great ride and birthday.

This Sunday is Gary's birthday on the Hebrew calendar, but his actual birthday is next Sunday.

No, my civil birthday (and there are those who might say I am never civil) is 4 August. There is another ride then. It just happened there was no ride scheduled this Sunday and I needed an attention-getter for the title. But if you check the calendar, 4 August 1952 at 9pm was 14 Av 5712. The Hebrew day starts at sundown.

I need to know what time you expect to get back to the cars. Until I know that, count me as a "maybe."

I would expect to be back at the parking lot from the Pier by 8:30am. Add another hour or so for breakfast. Certainly we should be on our way home by 10am.

I'll skip the breakfast part, but will be there for the 30 miles. I have a commitment downtown at Noon and will have to get home to get ready to go.

Long range forecast looks great. Mid-60s, no rain, ENE mild winds. We'll see...
