Ride and lunch above 50 degrees and dry, brunch otherwise

  • Needs a location

  • For the last couple of years in January, some of us have made our way in cars to Chinatown for Dim Sum brunch at Cai in January.  In 2016, we did it on New Years Day, piggybacking on the Chicago Dining Out group, which quickly ran out of space.

So for New Years Day 2017, we'll be doing something different.  If it's above 50 and dry, we ride from somewhere to lunch.  If it's not, we find a place to sit down together, without helmets and Lycra, and sit down to a nice long meal, and maybe a walk someplace afterward.  (One of the reasons I like Chinatown.)

I'll bow to the majority on where that should be; if you know of a place open that day that can handle a couple of large tables, this is (probably) the one day a year we'll get together and NOT ride.  As such, brunch can be anywhere in the Chicago area, and ride-sharing is encouraged.

We'll either be sitting down for food at 10:30-10:45 or (fat chance!) rolling by 10:30.  Sign up early, and show up no matter what we wind up doing.  IF we ride, it will have to be at a place with free parking and access to food at the midpoint; quite likely the trail along Lake Michigan as that is cleared of snow and ice that might have accumulated from previous winter weather.

Details to follow as suggestions are made and consensus achieved.

This looks like fun, but can't you drop the temp minimum to at least 40? It would at least increase the chances of the ride portion of this trip happening, and I'm sure most of us have cold weather cycling clothes. We rode the lakefront this past New Year's day in sub-freezing temps and it was fine. Just something to think about over the next 12 months. :) 'Meantime, I'm in. Cheers -

Nope. I'm the host, and my lungs don't let me ride below 50. My stomach lets me eat pretty much whenever. I'm just not as BA as BL.

This sounds intriguing... I can see we will need to plan a couple of contingencies, but getting together for FOOD is always a welcome idea!!!

Yep. I figure a year is a long way out for people to commit, but it's also a long way out for planning something. Sign yourself up! I'm adding Nancy as a cohost for the event when I'm near a computer.
