Sustainable Food Production with Aquaponics

Two representatives including myself from Nelson and Pade, Inc., the leading name in aquaponics systems, training, education, and R&D will be hosting a seminar that will discuss the methods and science that make aquaponics work, applications of aquaponics, the latest developments in the industry and the commercial viability of this unique form of agriculture. Before founding the company, John Pade and Rebecca Nelson gained experience as commercial hydroponic growers in addition to greenhouse building and design and built the company on their expertise after studying aquaponics with Dr. James Rakocy, who then served on the Nelson and Pade, Inc. board of directors. Our mission is food security for all people, and the reason we seeing success in this is because we are in the business of making successful growers.

Education is key to fixing the ills of our current food system and provide a sustainable, nutritious alternative to conventional agriculture, and the seminar will provide an understanding of the potential this technology has to feed people here at home and around the world. In aquaponics, using a properly engineered system minimal use of water, energy, labor and resources can achieve intensive production rates year round even in areas with no arable land, in urban settings or food deserts, thus supporting the local foods movement. Aquaponics is truly proving to be integral to the future of agriculture on many levels.

The format of the seminar will be a two-hour Power Point presentation with an hour of questions and answers afterward which always produces an thorough discussion with no stone left unturned, with breaks every 50 minutes and more available here: The course includes the book Aquaponic Food Production by Rebecca Nelson, which covers a wide variety of topics including fish and plant selection and care, water quality dynamics, component and system design with plans for building a system at home, and operation of the aquaponic system.
