• Aid Climbing Lesson

    Vertical Endeavors

    $35.00

Want to learn Aid Climbing? Aid climbing is the use of mechanical devices to climb rock walls beyond your rock climbing skill level. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aid_climbing for more info. We are going to do a 2 hour lesson on Aid Climbing at Vertical Endeavors, lasting from 8 PM - 10 PM. Please note that we need to have a minimum of 4 people to do this. In the case that we get less than 4 people this will just be ran as a private lesson with two people, with one person being Taras (myself) and one additional person, and if that happens the fee will be $50 plus VE Entrance Fee ($15) for a total of $65. Please note that with 3 people VE will require a second private lesson fee, so we will not do this with 3 people, we will need at least 4 people or do it as a group clinic. As long as we meet the 4 person minimum, it will be only $35 per person, however if you need a harness that fee does not include gear rental at VE. REFUND POLICY: If we meet the 4 person minimum, no refunds will be issued. If we do not meet the minimum, and you still want to attend, you will either need to pay an additional $30 or you will get a refund at that point.

  • Thatcher Woods Tree Climbing

    Thatcher Woods Forest Preserve

We're gonna go to the forest preserve and string up some trees for climbing - get practice using ascenders and rappel techniques. Possibly also set up a rope swing or tyrollean traverse. No experience is necessary. You don't need to stay the entire time, but FYI we may be there as late as 6-7 PM. The longer you can stay the more you can do! It is highly recommended, but not mandatory that you have a climbing harness. You'll get to participate much more with one than without, but if you don't have one you're welcome to come hang out anyway. You can get a harness for about $50 at REI - http://www.rei.com/search?query=climbing+harness If you also have any other climbing gear such as ropes or ascenders please do bring! We are going to meet at the Thatcher Woods Parking Lot (NOT Thatcher Woods Glen!) in River Forest - look up the coordinates on Google Earth -[masked]° [masked]° - when you get there if the parking lot you're at has a lake next to it you're in the wrong lot, if there is a big big open field then you are in the correct lot. It's the lot that is on the north side of Chicago Ave, and there is a little perhaps 1/4 mile road through the woods that leads up to the lot. Check out pics of the Forest Preserve Tree Climbing from 4/22/12 at http://www.meetup.com/chicagoropes/photos/7665272/ If there are people on the wait list, preference will be given to members with gear, especially if you got rope, and if we got enough people coming with gear we will be able to accommodate additional people.
