Puzzles can be enjoyable just for the intellectual joy of solving them. But, they are also useful as a way to explore and learn. In solving programming puzzles we can often discover nooks and crannies of a language and its libraries that we don't get to exercise in our normal work programming. In this talk I'll present several puzzles from the 2017 Advent of Code. Bring your thinking caps because we'll start by thinking as a group about how to approach each puzzle, then see how that compares with the solutions I came up with and what interesting bits of Scala I used.
Marc has been developing software for over 30 years and has worked in fields such as scientific data processing, device driver development, business applications and kiosk computing platforms. Over years he's programmed in languages ranging from assembly language and FORTRAN to Haskell. For the last 6 years he has worked mainly in Scala at AMI Entertainment Network in Oakbrook Terrace.
Thank you to our repeat hosts Slalom Consulting. We'll be joining them in their new office location in the Aon Center Building.
Note that building security at Aon needs full names for the security list. If your Meetup username is not your full name, please send me a message or email with your full name and I'll make sure it's on the attendee list.
