What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?

Oh boy, where do I start...Tofu, eggs in tea, dim sum, zhongzi, dumplings, Sliced Fat-lean Pork With Preserved Salted Vegetable, Shredded Pork With Seaweed, beef flat noodles (Hong Kong style), pork chop rice (Taiwan Style), roast duck, bbq pork, Spicy Sichuan Style Beancurd , cold noodles, congee... I can go on and on. I love Chinese food but I have not found anything really good in the D.C. area. The only thing is, I am not a big fan of seafood.

How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)

My family does not speak english, so I am fluent in Chinese. I can read at about a 4th grade level in traditional Chinese.

What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?

Good conversation, learning Chinese, teaching Chinese, playing Mahjong (although I really don't know how to play very well-good for socializing), meeting new people...

What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?

I'm not sure. I haven't been to any meetups yet.

Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.

I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. I grew up speaking Chinese b/c my family does not speak English. I also took Chinese from a private tutor for a few years to learn how to read. I really enjoy the language and appreciate it for its complexity.

Introduction

I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese, although, not native. I would like to volunteer some of my time to help those that want to learn Mandarin.
