O ciclo de cinema que reúne Dead Ringers de David Cronenberg e The Skin I Live In de Pedro Almodóvar propõe uma reflexão inquietante sobre os limites da identidade, do corpo e da ética na medicina. Ambos os filmes centram-se em figuras de médicos obcecados pelo controlo — do corpo alheio, da dor, da transformação — e exploram a intersecção entre ciência e perversão. Em Dead Ringers, Cronenberg mergulha na simbiose doentia entre dois gémeos ginecologistas, num ambiente frio, clínico e perturbadoramente asséptico. Já Almodóvar, em The Skin I Live In, cria um thriller psicológico com tons melodramáticos, onde a plasticidade do corpo se torna palco de vingança e reconstrução identitária. Esteticamente, os filmes contrastam e dialogam: onde Cronenberg adopta uma paleta gélida e minimalista, Almodóvar opta por cores saturadas e composições barrocas. No entanto, partilham uma tensão constante entre o desejo e a deformação, entre o cuidado e a violência. Este ciclo convida o espectador a confrontar-se com os abismos da subjetividade humana e a repensar o corpo não como invólucro neutro, mas como território de poder, trauma e transgressão.

The film cycle that brings together Dead Ringers by David Cronenberg and The Skin I Live In by Pedro Almodóvar offers a disturbing reflection on the limits of identity, the body, and medical ethics. Both films focus on doctors obsessed with control — over other people’s bodies, over pain, over transformation — and explore the intersection between science and perversion. In Dead Ringers, Cronenberg delves into the sickly symbiosis between twin gynecologists in a cold, clinical, and disturbingly aseptic environment. Almodóvar, in The Skin I Live In, creates a psychological thriller with melodramatic tones, where the plasticity of the body becomes the stage for revenge and identity reconstruction. Aesthetically, the films contrast and converse: where Cronenberg adopts a cold and minimalist palette, Almodóvar opts for saturated colors and baroque compositions. Yet they share a constant tension between desire and deformation, between care and violence. This cycle invites the viewer to confront the abysses of human subjectivity and to rethink the body not as a neutral shell, but as a territory of power, trauma, and transgression.
