Interested in learning to sail?
Classes are targeted to beginners interested in the sport of small sailboat (under 20 feet in length) sailing. Class size is limited to the first 10 registrations. This class is for adults and young adults over 14 years old. This is an on-the-water (and in-the-water!) class, where students are introduced to sailing in a beach environment. Students will rig a small sailboat, learn the basics of sailing and exercise these basic techniques on a Sunfish sailboat. This is where you can really prove to yourself that you understand the basics of sailing! The $95 fee (PER STUDENT) includes club membership in the Clear Lake Sailing club for 2019.
Participants must be comfortable in the water and know how to swim.
Students who have signed up will be notified via this MEET UP event notice the night before the event if weather (strong winds or predicted lightning) requires a re-scheduling. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CHECK THIS SITE BEFORE TRAVELING TO THE CLASS LOCATION. If so we will do our best to schedule on the following day or next weekend. Dress for the beach and bring your favorite refreshments. If you have a life vest, bring it, otherwise we have some to share. We will send out details on location and logistics the night before the class. Note that there is a separate $5 fee to enter the dike -- we unfortunately cannot do anything about that . :-( Here is a link ( http://www.clearlakesailingclub.org/TexasCityDikeInstructions.doc)to directions and logistics associated with your day at the Texas City Dike.
Registration closes 2 days before the scheduled event. After that, you may email the organizer to see if openings remain, and then pay at the event itself, but the cost will increase to $110.
Prior to the actual on-the-water class, we highly recommend you download and review our online training material ( http://www.clearlakesailingclub.org/index2.html ) associated with this class. Our class is basically an execution of this training on the water.
Final note: (the legal stuff) -- these on-the-water activities are generally safe, but one has to be careful and aware of the dangers of being on the water. You will be asked to sign a waiver form ( http://files.meetup.com/3405522/CLSC%20Release%20Statement%20Form.pdf ) showing that you understand the risks.
