July Meeting: Grails and Groovy - Next Steps

From: Scott S.
Sent on: Thursday, June 24, 2010 11:40 AM
You asked for it, we deliver :)

You?ve seen Grails and Groovy, you?ve watch some screen casts, you?ve read a few tutorials, you are completely taken in by the productivity it can offer you. You are ready to jump in with both feet. You download and install Grails. You run grails create-app.

Now what? What do you go from here? Your IDE/command prompt is waiting for you to take the next step.

Grails isn?t just about traditional MVC web apps. We?ll explore how to use Grails to build a web service backend. We?ll talk about GORM as well as some of the new features such as named queries, named URL mapping, and how to create services. We then explore how to secure our Grails app using Spring security plugin.

Mac Liaw entered The Ohio State University's Masters Program in Computer Science at age 15. He was a member of the CERN development team that established HTTP and HTML. He is active in the Linux Kernel, Groovy development and Haskell open source project. Currently he is Inc?s VP of Technology and has been involved in video games development since Playstation 2 and Xbox. He currently oversees PS3 and 360 video games development and special effects projects at Inc. He also serves as the CTO of Worthpoint Corp, an antiques and collectible focused website using Grails and GWT.

Meeting starts at 5:30PM (networking, food, drink), with the discussion beginning at 6:00PM.
