Thanks for joining! What brings you to our group?

I founded the group as a means to educate writers on the business of writing.

What would you like to accomplish in your writing each month?

My job as I see it is to make writers aware of the other side of writing: Publishing, or making a career as a writer. Most writers starve because they don't understand the business of writing. Worse, they don't hone their skills as a writer. Finally, no one trains writers for the 'business' of writing or teach its language. Writers go in like inventors trying to talk the bank into a loan leaving empty handed and frustrated. Self publishing is viable, but you have to have the chops for marketing yourself, or be willing to invest in same.

What is, or are the things that hold you back from your writing goals? When you write, do you write fiction, non-fiction? What categories does your writing land?

What I see holding most people back is they never 'finish the damn thing!' From there, writers don't know how to contact publishers, or DON'T think they need to invest in themselves. Why would anyone invest in you, if you aren't willing to invest in you? In today's competitive environment, you have to truly 'stand out'. Your work has to truly 'stand out'. As an unpublished writer, you have to work 1000 times harder. In the self published world, you have to invest to present the image of a polished product that 'stands out'. You have to generate your own 'buzz', 'hype', and do your own promotion. 5 years ago it was a pretty novel thing, now not so much. This is both positive and challenging. In all cases we are here to help you make a living as a writer.

As a condition of acceptance, to help Member Authors, are you willingto purchase one Member Title a month from Amazon, read it and review it? Yes or No?

How to....

Are you published? Have you published? Do you want to publish? Have you considered Self-Publishing?

Yes, I have written and published a work on what parents and students don't know, but should, in the event of an active shooter situation at their work, school, place of worship, or while out and about.

Introduction

Welcome to the Best Writer Group in Northern Ohio. I founded the Group in 2007 to help more writers publish. In 2014, Paul Huckelberry and I joined forces to create a publishing arm so Members who work at it may realize their dreams.

What dave van h. is saying about this Meetup Group

Diversity is the name of the game. We had fun working on Twitter strategies and how to promote your book, or yourself, without being obnoxious! Lots of good reads, and input.
