 The Impossible--synopsis

Maria, Henry and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth.  As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her.

The screenplay isn't quite as powerful as the direction or the acting, but with such an astonishing real-lty story at its center, The Impossible is never less than compelling.

"Director Juan Antonio Bayona and writer Sergio G. Sanchez combine visual effects in this film that are doubly effective because they strive to do their job without calling undue attention. It is a mark of great acting in a film when it succeeds in accomplishing what it must precisely when it is required. The Impossible is one of the best films of the year."    Roger Ebert 4 STARS

"Technically flawless, The Impossible is a film with a raw emotional wallop that will move even the hardest heart."  Allan Hunter

Tips for improving the restaurant xperience:

  • Let us know your dinner plans when you RSVP so that we can either save you a seat at the "Movie Group" table or plan to meet you at the movie.
  • Print out a map or enter the restaurant address in your GPS ahead of time.
  • We can't always split the checks so please bring CASH to pay for your meal.
  • If you don't see us when you walk in, ask to sit with the "Movie Group".

The $5.00 yearly fee (or $1.50 for one movie) goes toward charges incurred for using the MeetUp website. You can access PayPal (see link in left hand column) or pay your fee to the Organizer at the event.

In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.

Interesting and emotional film. Although as far as factual reaction to such trauma; I would have preferred to see more of, many people to have a sense of panic and lose there calm and collective state of being. It does make you be grateful for never experiencing it.

I had told many of you that Hollywood may have changed the truth to make the story more dramatic(!). After reading up on the movie, I have since learned that according to several independent eyewitnesses, the Tsunami really did come that quickly and without warning.

Amazing performances! Tom Holland especially - future award winner. I will actually meet some of you one of these days, it was just too crowded to "find" anyone. I hope dinner is fabulous. Please post some comments about your experience at Mekong.
