New Event: Hope and Glory: Lakeland Community College / Noosa Bistro

Announcing a new event for Cleveland Independent Movie Goers!

Hello everyone.

First of all, let's welcome 3 new members: Sandi (who admits that she likes movies from her couch, but would probably miss our great discussions), Angela (a French movie person who I would imagine will be at Diving Bell in a few weeks), and fellow film fanatic Maryellen (who is bringing 3 people for her first event!).

Our next movie has us returning to Lakeland for their annual film festival. All of their movies are usually good, but I picked one that will probably suit us just fine.

Hope you can make it if I don't see you at CORN or DIVING BELL.

What: Hope and Glory: Lakeland Community College / Noosa Bistro

When: Friday, February 8, 6:00 PM

Movie admission: USD0.05 per person

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: Every year, Lakeland has its international film festival in January and February. This year, the theme seems to be about coping with war. Hope and Glory is a 1987 British film that won many awards.

Check the festival out for all their great films.

LCC is easy to find, just south off I-90. It seems farther than it really is. It is approximately a 25 minute drive from downtown Cleveland.

6:00 EATS: Noosa Bistro is an upscale restaurant that should fit in our budget since the movie is free. Check it out at Ask to be seated with the Movie Group if you don't see us when you walk in. Cash is highly recommended. It is about a 10 minute drive to the college.

*** If you plan on joining us ahead of time, please tell us on your RSVP. We will reserve a spot for you at the group table. ***

7:40 MOVIE: Look for the H building ROOM H-101 It gets crowded so allow extra time. Take a copy of this map with you (look for building 17 behind the left side of the Clock).

Meet at the auditorium entrance door IN THE THEATER HALLWAY 5 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterwards outside the same door.

AFTER MOVIE DISCUSSION: We will head back to Noosa for some refreshments and plenty of good discussion.

DESCRIPTION: Based upon director John Boorman's experiences as a young boy during World War II, HOPE AND GLORY stars Sebastian Rice-Edwards as Bill Rowen. Seen mostly from the nine-year-old boy's perspective, the film is uniquely astute in exploring the exhilarating effect that the bombing of his London suburb and the war's general tumult has on a young boy, at least temporarily.

REVIEW: "The antics of the colorful characters and its fast-paced story line give Hope and Glory all the spontaneity of a child at play."

NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS: This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers, which is why I offer multiple meeting points:

* Entrance door to the movie in the theater hallway 5-10 minutes ahead of time
* Under or by the Marquee right after the movie
* A reserved table at a restaurant (usually) under the name "Movie Group"

If you see a bunch of people talking about good movies they have seen, it is probably us. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved.

NOTE TO ALL: In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.
