Re: [movies-320] Hollywood loosens its grip on the Academy Awards

hi there,
i completely ignored the Awards - but i'm so glad to hear that "falling slowly" took the prize!  great song from a great movie.  it's really encouraging to see the indie films/actors get the recognition they deserve.
see you soon,

Hi everyone

If you are like me, Academy Awards winning movies are like political debates: little substance, try not to be offensive, include things to please everyone, tell the audience what to think.

Last night had some hope. All 4 acting award winners started out in either independent films or foreign films. Does this mean an end to Hollywood's in-breeding? :-)

The other indy highlight was hearing Glen Hansard and Mark?ta Irglov? singing live on stage. Our movie group saw "Once" last summer and we all agreed that this movie was really something special. (It cost $100,000 to make.) To top it off, even with 3 Enchanted songs as competitors, "Falling Slowly" took the oscar.

What are your thoughts?
