Hi everyone,
We had a great crowd for Mahler on the couch.  Not the most straightforward film, a bit dramatic, but I learned a lot about him as an artist.  This movie provided context when Amy went to see the Cleveland Orchestra perform Mahler's 3rd Symphony, which at 95 minutes, is the longest concert piece regularly performed in modern times.
To top it all off,  sitting right behind our group watching the movie was Franz Welser-Most, in a comfortable turtleneck rather than a tuxedo with tails.
One of the unique aspects of this group is how willing members are open to considering these movies.  Most attendees know very little about the films, but have enough trust in the Organizers that they come out of their comfort zone to be exposed to something they would never otherwise.  It isn't like seeing Spiderman where the biggest surprise is how many previews you have to sit through.Smile emoticon
That said, if you as a member have a special interest in a movie or topic, let me know, and we can try to schedule something around that.
This Thursday's event, part of the Italian Film Festival, is sold out, but you could always try showing up to see if there is a ticket left.
AN AUTUMN AFTERNOON - Friday at 7:15, Cinematheque
If you have never seen an Ozu film, Autumn would be a great introduction to see a revered work by this Japanese director about a middle class family's struggles.
CHICKEN WITH PLUMS  - Next Sunday afternoon at the Cedar Lee
This new film by the Iranian director of Persepolis (fantastic movie) who struggles with life after his violin breaks.
Tonya has scheduled several films for our group to see.  Since they do sell out, don't procrastinate too long.  That reminds me, I still need to get my ticket!
THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER  - Wednesday, October 17 at 6pm
To keep the variety, this light, coming of age film comes to town and stands out among this genre to avoid the normal cliches.  It stars that girl from Harry Potter, who can never remember her name.
OCTOBER 5-7, 2012 - Cinema Wasteland Drive-In Era of Horror & Sci-fi Movies at the Strongsville Holiday Inn

OCTOBER 5-6, 2012 - Canton International Film Festival at Canton Palace Theater

OCTOBER 10-12, 2012 - Serbian Film Festival at Tri-C West theater
OCTOBER 14-28, 2012 - Cleveland Jewish Film Festival at Cleveland Cinemas

OCTOBER 25, 2012 - The Freakishly Short Animation Festival at the Akron Art Museum
