*Update- We will be joined via Google Hangout by Michael De Dora, Director of the Center for Inquiry's Office of Public Policy and the organization's representative to the United Nations. Michael is also the Center for Inquiry's chief lobbyist and an all-around great guy! As this is his area of expertise, he'll be offering us some pro points & tips :)*
Join us for Center for Inquiry Northeast Ohio's (http://www.centerforinquiry.net/neohio) October Cleveland chapter meeting for the program "Using Your Voice: A Guide for Effective Citizen Lobbying". It will be a discussion based in part on the book The Citizen Lobbyist (http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Lobbyist-How--Manual-Government/dp/B00ERJM5GM/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1381038409&sr=1-1) by Amanda Knief, who currently serves as Managing Director of American Atheists.
According to a poll cited by the Rev. Barry Lynn (Executive Director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State) less than 20% of Americans have ever contacted an elected official about any topic.
But who among us wouldn’t prefer to have more of a voice in our public policymaking? This program/discussion will be a “how to” primer on becoming a citizen lobbyist, and will provide tips on how to most effectively reach out to elected officials. We'll have a resource available to help attendees find contact info for their district's state legislators.
This will also be a sort of initial primer for those who might want to take part in CFINO's Ohio Secular Summit 2014, slated for late January... stay tuned for details on that!
Light refreshments will be served- see you there! :)
