“If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflating our conceits?”
“For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.”
Such are the words of that great communicator of science, the inimitable Carl Sagan. To coincide with the annual Sagan Day celebration, we’ll be paying tribute to him at the November CFI-NE Ohio Cleveland chapter meeting with a choice selection of videos along with discussion on some of Sagan’s numerous notable quotes. And in the spirit of Dr. Sagan himself- he stated that “all assumptions must be critically examined”- we’ll be putting some of his quotes up for critical examination.
The November Cleveland chapter meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at 7pm at Mayfield Branch Library (500 SOM Center Rd., Mayfield Village).
Light refreshments will be served... See you there! :)
