Re: [humanism-174] Rejection of scientific evidence because of dogma

lol.  OK, we have Ken Ham figured out.  Now, what about Jason Lisle and Georgia Purdom and the other DEGREED personnel who work for Ham as "creation scientists".  Lisle has a PHD in astronomy and physics
but his bio at the AIG site reveals a man who has been a fundaloon since just after birth!  He has seen the evidence, he knows what astronomers and physicists know and he knows HOW real scientists have come up with their answers.  He has spent the time and done the work in order to earn a PHD in two very secular subjects and yet here he is, taking AIG's money and doing everything he can to undermine the sciences in order to support his religion.

Ham's a freaking jackass, but what about Lisle?

Perhaps most damning is the following statement in his AIG bio:

"Dr. Lisle grew up in a Christian home, and was taught to respect the absolute authority and accuracy of the Bible, and to be discerning about what is taught in secular schools. These critical thinking skills helped Jason to spot the fallacious arguments that are often used in the universities to supposedly prove evolution."

How does one consider any book to be absolute authority and accurate and at the same time claim to have developed critical thinking skills?  For that matter, how does one grow up as a fundaloon, and go through an entire PHD curriculum in astronomy and physics and still REMAIN a fundaloon?

btw, I have read several of his AIG "papers" and he gets himself so twisted around that even he cannot get out of his box without resorting to "well it doesn't matter as God can do whatever he wants".  This came during an attempt to reconcile "young earth" with the slight problem of light traveling here from stars and galaxies that are much farther away than 10,000 light years.

You can't prove that he isn't!

I will be more than happy to retract and apologize for the harshest portion of my reply to TC3 if TC3 will accept and acknowledge the fact that Ken Ham is exactly what he presents himself as and not some co-conspirator in a devious scheme to turn believers off to religion. Ken Ham and his supporters are as deluded as TC3 does not want to think them to be. Do you agree TC3?

Easy big guy! I think TC3 is on our side.  Have to admit that the Ken Ham AIG stuff is pretty nonsensical. For anyone not versed in fundaloonology, it might be very difficult to imagine these loons actually being serious about their triceratops as saddle horses!  I would admit that I am not familiar with the flat earth people and therefore am not sure if THEY are actually serious or just having a bit of a put-on!  But yes, the Hamfolk ARE 100% serious!

TC3,

WTF? What you want to believe is of little importance here. One must go with the evidence. Read the body of work written by Ken Ham. Look at his actions and activities. The conclusion is inescapable: the man is as deluded as you don't want to believe him to be. To reject the evidence in favor of some emotional discomfort with the idea that anyone can be so deluded is a failure to use critical thinking. To compound this error in thinking by concocting out of thin air an explanation for what you believe he must really be doing is seriously flawed thinking. Your entire comment is a complete failure in Critical Thinking 101, Skepticism 101, Freethought 101 and Logic 101.

I just don't want to believe a human can be that deluded. Perhaps the people funding them do so to further the scientific and logical agenda. This has GOT to be intentional.

I think nuef if being facetious. I certainly do not think that Ham and his folks are anything less than 100% sincere in their proclaimed beliefs. My only hope is that they may be so delusional that the others notice!

Do I understand you correctly? You think that Ham and the folks at AIG are actually nonbelievers engaged in a truly ungodly scheme to lead people away from religion? Or is there some comedy in your comment that I am missing?

I wish it were true. Only an incredibly gifted devious mind could concoct such a convincing scheme. It would be an incredible acting performance. He performs stupidity so convincingly. In fact, if what you suggest is true I think he should be nominated for an Oscar.
