No, it was not my book, but a review of another author's work!

At this time, I write mostly book reviews and stuff for this forum.  I own my own business so there just isn';t the time to do any serious writing.

But when I wrote, I wrote both fiction (short stories and novel attempts) as well as non-fiction (video documentaries and corporate programs)

I haven't read any of that. In fact, I didn't really read anything refuting any of my beliefs. I was completely faithful and fully expected science to support my worldview, and in fact, once I filtered it through the workings of my mind, it did. One day, quite unexpectedly, one of the filters failed, and that opened a floodgate. I didn't even have to do any more research, I had already done it all, but for the first time was able to really 'see' what I had learned. It felt like an epiphany, but looking back, it really wasn't. It was just me finally being honest with myself.

I've probably written this story here already, so forgive me if I repeat myself. I was at the Natural History Museum looking at a mastadon fossil and it all came together.

The odd thing is as a believer, I loved science. I ate up scientific articles. I simply thought it supported my bias. Since walking away from that mess, I went back to college and took physical anthropology. I realized that everything I was taught about science was warped, and I did not understand the scientific method at all. All that time, science had been presented as views that needed to be proven or supported, OR as ripping into the weaknesses of other theories. Turns out the method is all about falisifying your own findings. It was a real revelation to me that 'disproving' another theory was not the same as proving your own.

It turns out, I don't love science, I ADORE science. It's hard work, but so much more satisfying than bronze-aged myths.

What do you write? Was that you that sent out information on a book you just published? I haven't had time to look closely (2 research papers due this week) but intend to go back and take a closer look. A book on Jesus.

Do you write only nonfiction?

Susan

Very cool!  I came at my scientific view of the world by reading Isaac Asimov.  Of course, reading Darwin and the bible back in the day helped as well, but ASimov was an important influence not only on what the world was really like, but also on the mindset needed to see the world on its own terms!

And I always liked the apocalyptic fiction:  DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, THE STAND, THE EARTH ABIDES, FAIL SAFE, and so on!

I'm a writer too. :) For fun, I like to write Bible Fanfiction. LOL. I like to tell the stories from rational and irrational points-of-view.

Actually, it was writing that finally led me to conclude that the bible was crap. I was writing a story about a young woman who lived during the time of Noah's flood. I was a complete and literal believer in that flood. So I did some research to try and help me construct the 'pre-flood' world---and well, you know, science trumped.

Actually, as a writer, I COULD make this up, but I did not! lol

This sort of ignorance--or rather, the electorate's TOLERANCE of such ignorance could only come from religion.  Bible-believin' old-timey wrath of God love of Jeeeeesus religion.

God uses the wind in order to moderate global temperatures?  Uh, well, ALMOST there! lol  It is actually the exact opposite.  The variation in absorption and reflection of the SUN's heat by the Earth's surface (forests absorb, ice sheets reflect) causes warmed air to rise and cooler air to drop.  It is then the rotation of the planet that causes the movement and interaction of this air, which we call "wind".

As Lawrence Krauss has stated, no need for supernatural shenanigans!
