We are pleased to announce that CodeCore is hosting our next Code & Coffee meetup! Please bring your dev projects to work on.

Please only RSVP if you can 100% attend and have a project to work on. Grab your hot cup of coffee or tea from any of the local shops and come code!

MUST HAVE: An upbeat positive attitude and have zero tolerance for stereotypes.

To find out more about CodeCore, please visit their website.

Lastly, one of our Code & Coffee attendees has been diligently working on his game during our meetups and will be displaying it at MashUp Demo Night (which he is also organizing). The event will celebrate local game development and attendees will get to play the latest and greatest games that Vancouver has to offer. For free tickets, visit their website.

See you on the 24th!

    Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for the feedback! As we are a new meetup, we wanted to see how our first set of events were going to go before deciding what sort of changes we would like to implement. It's been fantastic to see the variety in skill level in addition to the types of projects that people are working on!

We want to continue building a supportive environment. Jenn & I will meet and brainstorm on ways to incorporate some of your suggestions. While we can't accommodate every single request, we will stay true in continuing to create a welcoming environment and to the original idea of creating time dedicated to personal projects. Feel free to click on About Us to see our description.

Please do not hesitate to approach Jenn and/or myself at the meetup. We're always up for a conversation and can always address your concerns on the spot. We're not scary! :) Thank you so much for your support. Have a great weekend!

What I found about this group was that there is a "range" of skills both in depth and variety.
Some were game developers, some were RoR codes, and some low-level developers.
    I personally like the variety.
How about ... a day or two before the next meetup, we post a very simple "problem" / brain teaser and see how each of us would solve it. We can present our "simple" soln to the class and discuss why/how your soln works.

    Here's a problem:
    File1: index.html
    <span id="whatIsXHR">Fill me please</span>

    File2: whatIsXHR.tmpl
This is a description of what XHR is

Problem: fill in the span inner node with the contents of File2. Use whatever tool/templating language/animal you choose.

Maybe not the best problem, but its simple and KISS should be the theme. Anyone else have a "simple" problem they like to share?

It was my first time at this meetup today and it was a good experience. Friendly people and a productive environment.
However, it would be nice if the meetup is a bit more structured.
I know it's tough to have a presentation each time, but you could just have some more regular guys give a few minutes lightening talk...basically more details than in the introduction about what you are doing.
Another good thing is to have a round of questions. Especially if you learn a new technology you would appreciate some guidance and recommendations. There was a web newbie today and she probably had a lot of questions :)

Can no longer make it... Woke up sick, sniffly and shivery. I'll stay home and keep my germs to myself.

Hey y'all -- the MashUp Demo Night went off fantastically! Thanks go out to everyone who attended!

On a new & fresh note, the little project I've been working on over the last couple months at Code & Coffee has launched on Kickstarter.

It's a game called "Hextraction", a real-time strategy game about oil riggers fighting aliens on uncharted worlds.

We could really use your help in piling on early as a project backer for social proof of concept. The more people we have financially supporting the project, even at the lower tiers, the more likely we are to achieve full funding.

You can check out the project at http://www.hextraction.com

Thanks for your attention and generous support!

    Sincerely,
    Neil Grey

We're considering mobile for 6 months after our initial release, but until then we have an exclusivity agreement with OUYA where they double our funding if the campaign is successful.

It will however be available on PC / Mac / Linux as a direct download or on Steam as well.
