Code Crew: Code + Coffee (Collaborative Coding Session)

  • Feb 17, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

IMPORTANT: If you have already RSVP'd and can no longer make it on Sunday please update your RSVP accordingly. We have limited space and have to cap the number of attendees for this coding session. If you run into trouble with any of the suggested assignments below, I'll be on deck sometime between 11:30am and noon to help you get up to speed before we start rockin' and rollin'.

Let's meet for some collaborative coding to get the productive juices flowing and keep each other motivated as we continue along on the voyage of learning how to code. Bring your projects, lessons and questions and we'll try to help each other out. First Swabbie on deck gets a coffee on me!

A few short suggested tasks to do before this meetup are listed below. These are totally optional and don't worry if you get stuck because we'll put something on calendar to try to get people up to speed if they need any help.

Suggested Things to Do

It may be a good idea to:

  1. Work through Try Git (~15 mins)
  2. Download and install Git on your computer
  3. Set up a GitHub account
  4. Download and install Sublime Text 2
  5. Download and install Google Chrome, if you don't have it already

Probably also:

  1. Watch Computer Programming in 5 Minutes
  2. Watch Basic Command Line Tutorial, and follow along (~5 mins)
  3. Go through the first chapter of one of the books in the "E-book" section of this post

And if you're really feeling brave:

  1. Take a stab at our first code challenge!

Hope to see you there!

- Jamal

Thanks everyone for coming out! Looks like everyone had a good time and learned a lot yesterday. Personally, I learned a good bit about CoffeeScript and Node.js and was able to help people with some Rails and Ruby questions as well as provide input on how to solve the first code challenge. I'm looking forward to our next Code + Coffee session and will you then.

I am afraid that I would get there too late and would like to give my spot to someone who can utilize all of the allotted time.
