- Learn to build a blog from scratch in under an hour using CodeIgniter!
Hey, everyone! We're back again... Last month we had some great "power-users", but also quite a few people asked for introductory tutorials. So now's the time for it! The CodeIgniter website has an out-of-date tutorial that shows (sort-of) how to build a blog-style website in 20 minutes using CodeIgniter. But it doesn't match the current interface (v2.1.2), and is moves awfully fast for a novice to follow. So for our October meeting, organizer Aaron Sylvan will build a blog from scratch, using CodeIgniter, in a single presentation. We've also got a great group of experienced developers who will be helping the newbies and sharing the best tricks of the trade with each other. The venue will be the same as last month, but this time we have our own projection screen, so everyone will be able to see the demos. 6:00-6:30pm Cocktails 6:30-7:30pm Presentation/Demo 7:30-8:00pm Networking, Sharing Hacks, etc. Come join us on Wednesday, October 24th. for good times with your fellow CI PHP'ers!
- Re-Ingite the Igniters!
Let's get this group rolling again! I'm nuts over the awesomeness of CodeIgniter, and when I saw the group was abandoned this summer I volunteered to step up and help bring our community together. I've already heard a bunch of great suggestions for themed events, including: Debugging, Integration with Social Media APIs, favorite libraries and extensions, and more... So this fall I'm ready to bring in some fantastic guest presenters, but first let's get re-acquainted with a casual after-work social event. During the event, I'll be listening carefully to your suggestions and requests — this isn't "my" group, it's OUR group. Let's make the events both fun and informative for us all! The venue, Woodrow's, is just a few feet away from the Chambers St. stop on the A/C/2/3 trains... and you can also take the 4/5/6 to Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall (6-8 minutes walk) or the R train to City Hall (3-4 minutes walk). We're going to have plenty of space downstairs, away from the crowds. Premium drinks, no televisions - so we can talk!
- Tech Drinkup
Tech happy hour sponsored by Heineken and SNAP. Chat, learn, meet new folks, get drinks on the cheap. Wed, 10/5, starting at 6:30pm at Gstaad, 43 W 26th Street. Here's the flier: http://www.flickr.com... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/snapinteractive/6198368520/in/photostream)
- From the bottom up...LAMP stack performance tuning
I would love to walk through the LAMP stack from the ground up from kernel level optimizations (open file limits, user process nice values etc) through mysql and innodb settings and apache/nginx/lighttpd configurations (php as compiled in module, fastcgi, opcode cachers etc) all the way up to code igniter caching and reverse proxy/http accelerator usage.
- CodeIgniter PHP NYC:: Introduction to CI 2.0
Sorry for the constantly postponing this meetup. The topic will be Introduction to CodeIgniter 2.0. Rokkan will be hosting this event like always. Wednesday (April 6th) for sure! Any comments/suggestions are welcome.
- CodeIgniter PHP NYC - Web Application Security
As discussed we are going to do a Security focused meetup. Web applications are of course the primary focus of the group (and CI / PHP) but feel free to bring other things to the table. We'll start with a quick introduction to web application's and a general security model and progress into a general discussion of available security libraries, what we would like a security library to contain. Time and attendance permitting we can even mock up some basic libs for use.
- CodeIgniter PHP NYC - MVC web application framework Monthly Meetup
Follow the discussion for this meetup on the message board (http://www.meetup.com/codeigniter/messages/boards/thread/10101027). This one looks like it will be a mostly holiday meetup with a recap of the year, group growth, and what we would like to see upcoming. Security discussion can be included, please discuss on the message board.
