Ding Tai Fung is a great Shanghai dim sum restaurant and is known for their Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings and is the Gold Award winner in the dim sum category for the Chinese Restaurant Awards 2013. I have been to this restaurant and the Xiao Long Bao dumplings are really good with juice coming out of each one of them on every bite. Amazingly, these dumplings actually stay intact until you bite into them, even though they are filled with soup. The restaurant too is immaculate; there is a glass wall showing the kitchen so you can actually see the dumplings being made. Overall, Shanghai dim sum is different than the typical Cantonese dim sum places we have been to in the past, so this will be a different but very good experience if you haven’t been to a Shanghai dim sum restaurant before.
The address of the restaurant is:
Ding Tai Fung
3235 Highway 7 E
Markham, ON L3R 0J5

Public Transit Directions:
Take the 71 or 71C GO bus from Union Station to Unionville GO station. Once at the Unionville GO station, get on the VIVA Purple bus heading west and get off at the Montgomery stop, which is at First Markham Place. The restaurant is in First Markham Place in the back of the complex. From Union Station, there are GO buses at 10:10 AM and 10:40 AM. I am planning on taking the 10:10 AM GO bus from Union Station (will arrive a little early, but the restaurant is in a big shopping complex where you can easily wonder around to kill time). If you take the 10:40 AM bus, you still may get to the restaurant around 11:30 AM. The VIVA buses run quite often – around every 10 minutes or so.
Take the subway to Finch. Once there, transfer onto the VIVA Blue bus going north. Take the VIVA Blue bus to Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. At Richmond Hill Centre Terminal, transfer to the VIVA Purple bus going east. Get off at the Montgomery stop, which is at First Markham Place. The restaurant is in First Markham Place in the back of the complex. Both the VIVA Blue and VIVA Purple buses run quite often, around every 10 minutes or so.
