This will be a leisurely walk along the beautiful & iconic Charles Darwin Track. The intent of the walk is to be an easy walk with a social & history flavor. Along the way I will present details of the life of Darwin....The author of one of the worlds greatest books.. "The Origin of the Species....." After the walk we will adjourn to the local RSL club for the roast of the day. The walk will be about 2 - 3 hours, although an extension to the midpoint of the falls or to Rocket Lookout will be available if time permits. As the RSL is a very small club, I need to book and pay for the event by the 11 June..hence no refunds after this date!! A great way to see out 2019 and welcome in 2020. Gulgong Folk Festival; Im sure that you have heard of this small historic gold mining town - the town on the old $10.00 note, the region where Henry Lawson spent his infant & early teen years. This is a small festival, a boutique festival, where largest venue probably seats 150 people. The festival based on my experience from 2018 utilises the Gulgong Opera House, the RSL and a couple of other small halls. It is a festival where you are likely to walk into a cafe and see musicians having an impromptu jam session. The town has a variety of accommodation options with motels, hotels, B&Bs and 3 camping options. There is also a great IGA in town as well as numerous cafes and several hotels, hence food/self catering is definitely not a problem. The town at this time of year will be hot and dry. Depending upon interest, I may try and arrange a group accommodation booking in a Dept of Education facility - Red Hill Heritage Centre. Basically it is a dormitory arrangement with separate male and female dorms and a well equipped communal kitchen/dining hall. Many of the musicians stay here. There is also camping here but it lacks shade; there appear to be better camping options. The Centre is in easy walking distance to the 'action.' I am also considering arriving a day early and visiting the Gulgong Pioneer Museum - which rates highly on tripadvisor 4.5 stars. What a way to end the year!!! Based on last year early bird tickets and dorm accomodation for 4 nights ....approx $200.00 Gulgong is approx 300 km from Sydney and 30 km from Mudgee. Details of the festival have not yet been posted; Please let me know if you are interested.
