Do You Lyric Lounge: 'MARCH in Like a Lion' Edition

Hosted by: LadyVee Dapoet

Musical Ambiance: Dj G Syde

Feature Artist: BlackPhoenix (SC)

Check out his bio below!:

Marcus Turner 'BlackPhoenix' was born the third child of Brenda and Dennis Turner in Insurlik, Turkey before his family soon moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where he was primarily raised. A graduate of the 2003 class of EC Glass high school, it was here he first fell in love with writing, although around this time that passion was geared more towards music. Due to discouragement and setbacks that pushed music to the back, he geared his writing more towards poetry in 2006. After 3 frustrating years of dealing with a poor job market and no outlet for spoken word, he then made his way to Greenville, SC. Most would see it as a questionable move to go so far away from their home state, but he saw it as God moving him where he wanted him.

Since moving to SC, he has competed in multiple poetry slam competitions where he learned if this is what he truly wanted to do he not only had to grow and change, but had to be "reborn" and later adopted the name Black Phoenix, the second half of the name being the symbol of his rebirth. For him his greatest accomplishment was when he competed in the second largest poetry competition in the nation at Southern Fried as a part of the Upstate Say What poetry slam team and ranked 10th in the first ever King of the South slam, and later became the 2012 upstate haiku slam champion. True to form of his nickname, Phoenix, this is not the end of his story or his growth.

Superb...as a noun, also as a verb. It's OK if this seems to be no more than a blurb...I am from the Chi. Not from a suburb...next open mic I'm no guitar, I'll be spittin'! :-)

If you are performing and you have background music, please email your track to me no later than midnight Friday. It can be in mp3 or wav format. Unfortunately I cannot accept wma format. My email address is [masked]. Trust me, things go much more smoothly when I already have your music queued up when you hit the stage.
