Next Tuesday, 27th May, as part of our weekly Workshop at The Vape Lab (still open from 4pm for newcomers to come and ask any questions they like), we'll be welcoming Charlene Chen from BitPesa.co
International Remittances are often cited as one of the best potential use-cases for bitcoin but making it a viable reality will be easier said than done.
BitPesa are confronting the challenge head on and have built a platform that aims to help their diaspora clients utilise the Bitcoin network to transfer funds back home to East Africa.
But access to bitcoins at the source of the transfer still carries significant friction.
Join Charlene, Gareth Grobler from South African Bitcoin Exchange, Ice3X.com (http://ice3x.com/) and Tomer Kantor (who recently traveled through Kenya, in a journey between the rural-unbanked to Nairobi's technological start-up hub. This was a lived experience, an invaluable addition to his IamSatoshi documentary research), for an open discussion that may spark some inspiration that will take us over the hurdles that remain.
We'll start the debate at 6:30pm, finishing before closing time at 8pm
Are you new to Bitcoin and other digital currencies? Are you a little unsure as to where you should start or just a little nervous about choosing the correct wallet to use or the best method of acquiring your first coins? Would you rather someone else showed you that paper wallets really aren't that scary or that creating and using your own cold-storage wallet isn't actually that hard?
Well, help is at hand!
With our walk-in workshops you can just pop by and find some friendly faces to whom you can ask all the questions may have.
Sponsored by our friends at Cointrader.net (https://www.cointrader.net/) (the guys behind the long established Bitcoiniacs outlet in Vancouver and now joining forces with our own quickbitcoin.co.uk (http://quickbitcoin.co.uk/) here in the UK), their team and CoinScrum members will be ready and waiting to show you the ropes and will even let you loose on their newly installed Bitcoin ATM at The Vape Lab.
Doors open at 4pm but you can stroll in whenever suits to either learn some more or just have some general chit-chat with like-minded enthusiasts. Knowing our members well, many will likely continue the conversation in the pub next door once the Vape Lab closes at 8pm:)
